It’s that time!  The 4th Annual Shakespeare Boot Camp at The Warehouse Theatre is scheduled for February 28 and March 1st.  This two day intensive (which costs only $10) will bring two wonderful teachers, Robert Richmond and Maegan Azar, to The Warehouse to work with actors on performing Shakespeare.

Robert Richmond is a director and the Associate Chair/ Co-Artistic Director, Director Undergraduate Studies and Head of Undergraduate Performance in the Dept. of Theatre & Dance at the University of South Carolina.  Maegan Azar is an actor, director, and an Assistant Professor of Acting and Directing at Furman University.  She is also currently the President of the South Carolina Theatre Association and the Vice-Chair of Southeastern Theatre Conference’s College & University Division.

Robert’s approach focuses on encouraging actors to respond intellectually and perhaps more importantly…instinctually…to explore space, time, physicality, and relationships in unique and creative ways.  Participants will 1) explore the historical context of the text 2) engage with its complexities and heightened language and 3) will develop skills to incorporate these aspects into a modern interpretation with the goal of harnessing creative energies / ideas into bringing the text from page to stage.

Maegan will work with actors on physical storytelling, employing a variety of techniques with the goal of making strong, vital, and complex choices which clearly communicate the language and character in service of the story.  Both instructors will use Hamlet as the text for exploration.

The Shakespeare Boot Camp is open to all actors regardless of experience.  Space is limited.  To register, please contact Anne Tromsness at [email protected].

Participants will be asked to review the text of Hamlet and become familiar enough with it to employ that knowledge in a workshop setting.  Specific scenes/passages will be assigned for group and individual work.

Workshop schedule is February 28th: 9:30 until 5:30pm.  March 1st: 9:30 until 1pm.
